About Principle 6

Leveraging the Power
of Cooperative Cooperation

The Principle 6 Cooperative is member-owned Cooperative of Cooperatives delivering cutting-edge tools and services that strengthen and expand cooperative enterprise globally. We welcome co-op federations, associations and cooperatives worldwide to join us as we bring Principle #6 – Cooperation Among Cooperatives – to life!

Why We Need The
Principle 6 Cooperative

Our planet is facing deepening economic inequality and social injustice continues to ignite instability and escalate catastrophic climate change. Cooperatives around the world can steer us toward a sustainable future if we come together to be the leaders of this change.

We All Face Similar
Challenges

While cooperatives cover all corners of the world and cross nearly every economic sector, there are challenges that we all face. Cooperatives are uniquely positioned to tackle these challenges head-on and provide a pathway to a brighter future.

Environmental Challenges

1.5°C
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), global temperatures are expected to rise by 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by 2030-2052 if current trends continue, leading to severe environmental and socio-economic impacts.

Bright Futures:

Cooperatives support environmental sustainability through regenerative production and promotion of sustainable consumption.

Economic Challenges

1% Owns 45%
The richest 1% of the global population owns more than 45% of the world’s wealth, while the bottom 50% owns less than 1% of the wealth.

Bright Futures:

Cooperatives boost local economies by reinvesting profits, creating fair wage jobs, and promoting economic resilience. They manifest inclusive growth and community development.

Social Challenges

77¢ for every $1
Globally, women earn approximately 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. At the current rate of progress, it will take an estimated 257 years to close the economic gender gap.

Bright Futures:

Cooperatives enhance social equity through community investment, democratic governance, ethical practices, and member empowerment.

Working Together for
Meaningful Change

The world needs more high-performing cooperatives. It is time to accelerate our impact. Instead of working in Silos, we will foster collaboration, and harness our collective strength.
