3.1 Ecological Solutions for Cooperatives – From Vision to Action

GICS-Co-Creating Inclusive and Lasting Change
At the Global Innovation Coop Summit, this workshop explored how cooperatives can translate ecological vision into concrete, everyday actions. From renewable energy and resource efficiency to circular production and green mobility, cooperatives are uniquely positioned to lead a collective ecological transition grounded in community participation and shared ownership.  Participants examined practical steps for integrating sustainability into their operations — reducing waste, optimizing energy use, and regenerating ecosystems. The real challenge is moving from awareness to implementation, ensuring that ecological commitments become part of the cooperative DNA.
The question for all of us now is: how can we turn ecological vision into lasting, cooperative action?

What concrete actions can cooperatives take to integrate ecological solutions — such as renewable energy use, waste reduction, or sustainable mobility — into their operations and communities?

Some things to consider in the discussion:
    Challenge:
What structural, cultural, or financial barriers keep ecological goals from becoming operational priorities in your cooperative?
Opportunities:  What partnerships, innovations, or funding models could make ecological transformation more accessible and measurable?
Intercooperation and Innovation:  How can cooperatives collaborate to share technologies, data, or best practices for implementing sustainable and regenerative solutions at scale?
