3.3 From Resilience to Impact – Cooperatives as Drivers of the Circular Economy

GICS 3.3 – Co-Creating for Inclusive and Lasting Change
At the Global Innovation Coop Summit, this workshop explored how cooperatives can move beyond mere resilience and become key drivers of systemic transformation. Instead of just weathering crises, cooperatives can lead the shift toward circular economies — regenerating local resources, strengthening territories, and embedding sustainability into everyday operations. Participants discussed how to mobilize members, deploy circular and sustainable energy solutions, and build collective projects rooted in cooperation and regeneration. The question for all of us now is: how do we bring that momentum home?

What concrete strategies can we put forward to actively mobilize our members, deploy circular energy solutions, or bring forth collective projects that regenerate our resources and territories?

Here are some things to consider as part of the discussion:
Challenge: What invisible barrier — cultural, structural, or psychological — prevents members from daring to innovate or take action?
Opportunities: What concrete and accessible mechanisms can strengthen innovation and the active, democratic participation of members?
Intercooperation and Innovation: What key skills — both personal and organizational — need to be developed to unlock initiative and encourage organizations to dare to change?
